Hi, I’m Betsy.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and the owner of Crossroads Counseling of East Texas. I have been providing counseling to children, teens, adults, and families since 2017.

In 2015, I received my bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at Tyler. Then in 2017, I graduated with my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, from the University of Texas at Tyler. During the beginning of my internship, in 2016, I worked at a Children’s Advocacy Center. Throughout my time there I worked with children, teens, and families who experienced many forms of traumatic experiences. I eventually became a clinical director, which helped sharpen my leadership skills. And now, I am wanting to continue my passion to help others.

As the oldest of 5 siblings, helping and caring for others comes naturally to me. Many times family, friends, and/or partners have difficulty sitting with you through challenging times and it can be uncomfortable. That is when I can help, providing you with a safe, comforting, and judgment-free environment for you and your family.

It is hard to talk about painful memories, feelings, and struggles. So, when you are stuck at a crossroads, it is easier to have someone by your side. And just like adults, children and teens go through their own challenges. At times making it hard for those around them to sort out what the problem might be. Healing and working through things isn’t always easy or fun, but it is possible with the right teammate along your side. Imagine living a life that is yours to navigate and your difficulty is just a bump in the road. Through therapy, this is possible!

My Approach

Who wants to get into the nitty gritty and tell a stranger everything about them? Not many people look forward to this part.

Talking about the good, bad, and ugly takes time and trust. That’s why my approach in therapy is to get to know who you are and where you come from before we get into all the other details.

Therapy isn’t like a cookie cutter, it’s just not the same for everyone. My way of therapy will allow you to go at your own pace while encouraging you to use and see your inner strengths. My goal is to help you through your healing journey and allow you to find what you are capable of accomplishing.

What is TF-CBT?

Trauma-Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. It is an evidence-based treatment for children and adolescents who have been impacted by trauma as well as their parents/caregivers.

TF-CBT addresses many traumatic symptoms, which could include: anxiety, anger, depression, sexual concerns, self-harm, and behavioral problems. As well as improving the distress of parents and caregivers, concerning the child’s traumatic experience.

What is person-centered?

Person-Centered therapy generally relies on 3 conditions:

  1. Empathetic Understanding: this is where I will be trying to understand your point of view.

  2. Congruence: in which the counselor will be genuine with you.

  3. Unconditional-Positive Regard: where the counselor is not judgmental.

Ultimately, the goal is for the client to learn the skills they need to face future challenges on their own.

What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a form of therapy that aims to help clients process difficult emotions or traumatic experiences. In brainspotting, different eye positions help identify “brainspots” linked to certain experiences, emotions, or areas of distress. Once they are identified, your therapist uses mindfulness techniques to help you access, and process the thoughts and feelings stored in that capsule.

Brainspotting locates points in the client’s visual field that helps to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain.
